The 2000 Chinese Heritage of Australian Federation Conference, joint project of La Trobe University, the Chinese Museum and the Shanghai East Normal University, provided an opportunity for Chinese Australian family history researchers to gather together. The Chinese Australian Family History Group of Victoria (CAFHOV) came into being as a result of this shared interest. The Family Historians of Victoria also has links with a similar interest group based in Sydney.

Aims of CAFHOV

1. mutual sharing of personal family history and research

2. development of research methodology

3. critical analysis of records and other sources

4. identification of issues and problems

5. development of resources; paper and electronic

6. publications and seminars

7. promotion of guest presenters

Membership of group

a) Persons engaged in personal Chinese Australian family history research

b) Persons engaged in relevant post-graduate research.

Frequency & venue of meetings

Meetings held on the first Saturday of each month at the Chinese Museum, 22 Cohen Place, Melbourne.
